I am astonished. I believe that I am there. I have written my last book, and though I consider it a premiere book and the signature book of my career, I had to shake myself and take stock of where that leads me. Because it has to lead me somewhere. I am not one to believe in “dead ends.” Not even in careers, much less in life.

16 books written , 12 are suspense novels ( 1 a young adult) and 3 non-fictions.  Over a million words, over 4000 pages, and that does not take into account the photo-journalism items written, nor the short stories and speeches. You would think I would be tired or run out of material.  Many of these works are found on Amazon.com in E Books and five are in print. There are also some available through the web store on my website for the Author From the Grassroots  www.joycegodwingrubbs.webs.com

The truth is that I have just begun. In my lifetime, I have never been bored. Further, I know where I am going and I know why.

You see, though I wrote suspense novels, contained in each one were life lessons about real people and about the cultural mores and taboos of our society. Granted they were peppered into the mix with cunning supervision and craftily placed into subliminal interpretation in the actions of the characters, but they were there. And many doubted me when I said that within the context of the books topics of victim and survivor stories they would find humor, romance and be able to relate and even envy and want to emulate the characters. My greatest yet humbling experience was to receive so many contacts with commentary on my books. From a 25 year veteran chief editor of a major newspaper saying, “Keep Writing” to an order for multiple novels, to a group of employees who found out the “secret life of their fellow employee who passed away” and was honored as Momma Bets in The Monday Night Flight Club. She is by far one of the most memorable characters and she was a living, breathing and beautiful soul. It has been an honor to bring these stories to publication.  It insures that my amazing, full and unique life in the “shadow world” will not go untold.

What is left for me? Short term journalism projects and I look forward to them. I hope to still “titillate the fancies of many” and “dare the dreamers to take action.” I want to move people and have them know they never have to “settle” in any part of their lives. If you are bored, you chose it.  If you are fearful you can overcome it. If you want to write, by damn pick up a pen, open a laptop, stroke a keyboard on the computer, but quite whining and just do it. Do not worry about a publisher, the cost, the price you will or won’t get, or who might steal your work. If it consumes you, share it. If it incenses you attack it. If it tears at your heart, reveal it. If you believe it write it and write it often and well.

The message is simple. I am still writing, telling the stories, and leaving the legacy of facts and knowledge, but I shall be doing it in “short hand” by writing it in articles.

Thank you if you have been aboard for the whole ride, and please continue to support the novels and their message. They can reach and motivate many people to “change their attitudes”, “take back their lives” and quit criticizing and become part of the solution.

About joycegodwingrubbs2

Some call me retired: I am RE-FIRED. I have written 15 books, plus 3 written as a "ghost writer". I no longer offer the novels as printed books, having them only available as Kindle Ebooks since my retirement as a novelist. Twelve books are on Amazon.com Kindle eBooks: collectively they are known as The Greyhound Lady Walking suspense series. They are real cases fictionalized into suspense stories to protect identities..( no victim/survivor names were compromised, and workers and locations were protected.) I also co-authored a non-fiction book: Footsteps Out of Darkness: The Annabelle Kindig Story . It is available on Amazon under the name of Annabelle Kindig. I have traveled, written from the heart, and found an audience that appreciates my "platform". The catalyst to writing the novels was the realization that if I died, I would take all my amazing experiences in these real cases with me; and believe me few have lived 5 lives in one. It would "silence the voices" of the victim/survivors whose triumphs are written into these novels. The suspense series was written in part with the collaboration of police woman and sex crime expert Trula Ann Godwin. In addition to the novels, I have written as a ghost writer for a World War II veteran who fought in the South Pacific aboard the USS Maryland in all the major battles. I have also written a non-fiction book recording oral history stories of my family members beginning with the 1930's to present. There are sixty-six "legacy" stories with pictures. It was recently published as a private printing for family and close associates only. I am a published photo journalist having won the 2009 Editor's Choice Award for internet freelance news articles and pictures of the Cedar Rapid's Iowa flood victim accounts and their personal struggles.. My husband and I are in our 52nd year together (only one blip on the marital radar together), and we have adopted three greyhounds; Dex, Big Buddy and Baby Doll. These were the inspirations in the Greyhound Lady Walking suspense series We have eleven grandchildren, 7 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. My three children live in Iowa, Wisconsin and Ohio.

  1. I truly can’t wait to see what comes next! Go for it!

  2. You know I will Michelle. We’ll both be surprised, right!

  3. Hank Krambeck says:

You are the perfect example of my often-used admonishment to various teaching staff i.e., “Plan your work, then work your plan”. You have “worked your plan” to perfection.

  4. Trula Hensler says:

Nice work. It is so good to see you fulfilling your dreams. Life is meant to be lived, shared and multiplied. Great job, mom!

    • Today I rec’d a comment from Kim G. who just finished reading “your book” (dedicated to you and the lead character “your inspiration”) She wants to read more of the books “you are in” as Tori. Told her to try “If This isn’t Love” now that she finished “A Woman’s Revenge is Love”. She loved it.

  5. Lyle Ernst says:

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; Joyce Godwin Grubbs is a “storyteller extraordinaire,” bar none.

    • Thank you my friend and as always I value your comments as you know the “good, bad and ugly” about my writing habits. It’s been a pleasure all these years to team up with you and share the literary world with you.
