MY ROGUE’S GALLERY OF MOTHERS 2013

**The Rogue’s Gallery salutes mothers each year that may not be ‘typical’ of our traditional sense of mothers and motherhood.

In light of the recent events in Cleveland Ohio and the horrific stories of these three women, abducted 10 years ago, now free, there can be no other more deserving Mother’s Day Tribute, than to them.

While the world speculated about what event took place to cause Amanda Berry to risk escape after ten years, we finally know the answer in her own words. She stated to police she knew that Mother’s Day was coming and she wanted to be home for Mother’s Day. It is doubtful that she knew that her own mother had succumbed to health problems in 2008, and that she would never be able to introduce her daughter Jocelyn to her .

And so it is that I salute the “Shero” Amanda Berry who risked her very life and possibly that of her daughter’s when she stormed the front door to escape. Her daughter Jocelyn at her side, this woman epitomizes all that a mother is characterized to be; a protector. While they will have much to overcome, they are able, with freedom, to begin that journey.

Also saluting mothers must include Michelle Knight who repeatedly knew the experience of “motherhood” with carrying her five babies.  She was forced to see them murdered through “spontaneous abortions” forced on her by the “Monster in the House” whose name I shall not even use, thus denying him even the mention of his name lest someone sick as he, deify it. Through the abdominal beatings he accomplished the abortions, and then through starvation to bring about the abortions, the Monster chose to end the lives of the babies who were yet unborn.

A special salute to Michelle, who under threat of death if she did not successfully deliver  Amanda’s Jocelyn alive for the Monster, gave the newborn “the kiss of life”; giving the baby mouth to mouth resuscitation when she quit breathing after delivery in an inflatable pool. Michelle who had no knowledge of “birthing babies” and did so under such duress to save their lives.

While Gina DeJesus does not clearly know if she was ever pregnant, due to the abdominal beating, she clearly endured the “motherhood syndrome” as she lived there and was forcibly put in the position of becoming pregnant, and also acted as a support to Amanda and Jocelyn, as well as Michelle.

I can only say that in my Rogue’s Gallery of Mothers for 2013 I feel privileged to salute:

About joycegodwingrubbs2

Some call me retired: I am RE-FIRED. I have written 15 books, plus 3 were written as a "ghost writer". I no longer offer them as printed books having them only available as Kindle Ebooks since my retirement as a novelist. Twelve books are on Amazon.com Kindle eBooks: collectively they are known as The Greyhound Lady Walking suspense series. They are real cases fictionalized into suspense stories to protect identities..( no victim/survivor names were compromised, and workers and locations were protected.) I also co-authored a non-fiction book: Footsteps Out of Darkness: The Annabelle Kindig Story . It is available on Amazon under the name of Annabelle Kindig. I have traveled, written from the heart, and found an audience that appreciates my "platform". The catalyst to writing the novels was the realization that if I died, I would take all my amazing experiences in these real cases with me; and believe me few have lived 5 lives in one. It would "silence the voices" of the victim/survivors whose triumphs are written into these novels. The suspense series was written in part with the collaboration of police woman and sex crime expert Trula Ann Godwin. In addition to the novels, I have written as a ghost writer for a World War II veteran who fought in the South Pacific aboard the USS Maryland in all the major battles. I have also written a non-fiction book recording oral history stories of my family members beginning with the 1930's to present. There are sixty-six "legacy" stories with pictures. It was recently published as a private printing for family and close associates only. I am a published photo journalist having won the 2009 Editor's Choice Award for internet freelance news articles and pictures of the Cedar Rapid's Iowa flood victim accounts and their personal struggles.. My husband and I are in our 52nd year together (only one blip on the marital radar together), and we have adopted three greyhounds; Dex, Big Buddy and Baby Doll. These were the inspirations in the Greyhound Lady Walking suspense series We have eleven grandchildren, 7 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. My three children live in Iowa, Wisconsin and Ohio.
