Octogenarian, widower, heiress, and founder of The Last Author’s Club vanished. Authorities want to write it off and “senile wandering” but an odd letter is found that dictates if anything wrong or strange occurs, they are to contact a Hawaiian private detective and give him $450,000 to help her. Her only family, fiery Quinn Beck, puts him at the top of the suspect pool for Zilphia’s disappearance. The investigation leads many secrets to be revealed, taking the involved parties to Hawaii and into more danger.

A mysterious “angel” is revealed as a regular visitor at one of the Hawaiian graves connected to James Moore. Strange smells of Gardenia begin to influence Quinn, and an apparition at the garden in Hawaii sets James on another path.

James Moore is the pivotal figure in keeping all parties focused on the case, and at 80 years old, he is a major contributor of legal and insightful pursuits and investigative connections. Also a widower, he has a large investment in The Last Author’s Club which has become renowned for its competitive and elite workshops and accommodations.

The storyline takes the reader into the world of Hawaiian adoptions, culture, Lau martial arts and traditions. It reveals such influences as “Stink Eye” and “Evil Eye” prejudices that affect the acceptance or rejection of green eyed people. There is also the influence the culture brings against the “half breeds” and the structure of family discipline for those who do not live by the “rules”.

A charismatic revelation during the investigation is the discovery of the “Jelly Bean People” and the files on the secret project of The Author’s Club; Paying It Backward. Could one of their projects have gone “sideways” bringing retribution on Zilphia Godwin Beck? Would it turn out to be kidnapping and extortion for her millions?

Bringing in the Twyner Security Agency seamlessly brings to a conclusion the Greyhound Lady Walking suspense series as the team comes to Hawaii to help find Zilphia Godwin Beck when indications reveal clues that she’s been taken there. The camaraderie and skillful teamwork with the usual humor and surprises take over when Pride Godwin is brought into the investigation.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS STORY

This novel was inspired by two of the readers who have read all 13 of the Greyhound Lady Walking novels, and all of the other works of the author. It is dedicated to them. The real James Moore and wife Darlene Moore.  #13 ends the series and it is a tribute to James “Jim” Moore, a “man’s man” who loved this series and supported it fully. Happy 80th birthday James “Jim” Moore.

About joycegodwingrubbs2

Some call me retired: I am RE-FIRED. I have written 15 books, plus 3 were written as a "ghost writer". I no longer offer them as printed books having them only available as Kindle Ebooks since my retirement as a novelist. Twelve books are on Amazon.com Kindle eBooks: collectively they are known as The Greyhound Lady Walking suspense series. They are real cases fictionalized into suspense stories to protect identities..( no victim/survivor names were compromised, and workers and locations were protected.) I also co-authored a non-fiction book: Footsteps Out of Darkness: The Annabelle Kindig Story . It is available on Amazon under the name of Annabelle Kindig. I have traveled, written from the heart, and found an audience that appreciates my "platform". The catalyst to writing the novels was the realization that if I died, I would take all my amazing experiences in these real cases with me; and believe me few have lived 5 lives in one. It would "silence the voices" of the victim/survivors whose triumphs are written into these novels. The suspense series was written in part with the collaboration of police woman and sex crime expert Trula Ann Godwin. In addition to the novels, I have written as a ghost writer for a World War II veteran who fought in the South Pacific aboard the USS Maryland in all the major battles. I have also written a non-fiction book recording oral history stories of my family members beginning with the 1930's to present. There are sixty-six "legacy" stories with pictures. It was recently published as a private printing for family and close associates only. I am a published photo journalist having won the 2009 Editor's Choice Award for internet freelance news articles and pictures of the Cedar Rapid's Iowa flood victim accounts and their personal struggles.. My husband and I are in our 52nd year together (only one blip on the marital radar together), and we have adopted three greyhounds; Dex, Big Buddy and Baby Doll. These were the inspirations in the Greyhound Lady Walking suspense series We have eleven grandchildren, 7 grandsons and 4 granddaughters. My three children live in Iowa, Wisconsin and Ohio.
